Newbie buys 2008 SAE Proof & Uncirc
Hi, this is my first message about my first PM purchase. I put a US Mint order in for (10) 2008 SAE Proof at $31.95 and (6) 2008 SAE Uncirc at $25.95. Since it won't ship until 4/9/08 and I can cancel, I thought I'd ask the experts here if this is a worthwhile buy or not.
I'm thinking to hold the Proofs for the longrun investment. I briefly searched and saw various years of SAE Proofs generally at higher prices than corresponding Uncircs. Instead of asking what to buy, first I thought I'd ask, I bought these, what is the best way to use them? If one buys SAE bullion from a dealer listed in USMint.gov, can those coins increase much in value over spot price like a Proof or you just try to buy those low and sell high based on the current spot price? Thanks for your advice! |

I would not say that I am an expert in SAEs but I can say that all of the UNC SAE I have bought have been at or just a little above spot. I hunt for bargains but there are plenty to be found. Check out EBAY and you can see what most sell for.

If you sell to a big online dealer like APMEX you WILL get your premium out of your SAEs. I don't like numismatics for investments, but to each his own I suppose.

Collecting coins is for fun, although there is an investment element to it. Buy bullion coins for profit, at the best price possible. I would buy one (1) of each coin and invest the rest in bullion coins.
